"...Farms & Mills
Fresh is the air in the Michigan apple orchards. Fresh are the fruits and vegetables we pick ourselves when visiting a Michigan Cider Mill or Farm. Fresh is the fun we have with our families on a visit to a farm, apple orchard, or cider mill. This is the refreshing way to answer questions like “Mom, where do apples come from?” This is where open-air Michigan farmers markets and u-pick farms enliven our recipes. This is the true meaning of the phrase: farm fresh. So let’s visit farms, apple orchards and cider mill in Michigan. Because nothing refreshes our lives like Pure Michigan.

Tomato seeds planted
Tomato Seeds planted !
Actually, planted them on the 16th - most are up:
Kosovo - 36 plants
Matt's Cherry - finally! 1 plant out of six seeds came up today!
Pineapple - and finally for one of the Pineapple
Coyote - and ... finally had 1 of the Coyote come up (out of 6 planted)
Persimmon - 3 of the six planted
another flat had either Kosovo or Canestrini planted - when I harvested the seeds, I was distracted and may have put the Kosovo in the Canestrini bag - and vice versa. I'm not too concerned about the Canestrini - didn't care for them - very large, red tomatoes, but not alot of meat inside, whereas the Kosovo - omg - gREAT tomatoes for sauces, canning - ok - not canning since I don't can - I froze them last year.
Also planted some Cockscomb - thinking that my son and soon to be daughter-in-law would like them in their fall wedding, but the color is just a bit too red. Ah well - all for me : ) ... there are 12 of those plants finally up. Some of the originally planted pots didn't net any seedlings, so I transferred some from the other pots. Should have a good 2 dozen plants, as some pots were doing well with 3-4 plants each.
Also planted a Hubbard squash. yep, I know. too early, but I just couldn't resist - figured I'd have to really baby it this summer, but it'll be worth it if takes - and I want to find out just how many pies I can make out of one hubbard seed :)
Ok, so the above was all back on 3.16.11
Yesterday, 3.25.11, replanted six more each of the Matt's Cherry, Pineapple, and Coyote - but then noticed (as I stated above) that some of the original seeds sprouted overnight!
Transplanted some of the Cockscomb into empty (seeds didn't sprout) pots
Transplanted some of the Kosovo into pots that started dying off - prolly due to my "brilliant" thinking that they needed to be near the heat duct on some cold nights - bad idea - they didn't like that at all.
Also placed a heating pad under one of the flats to see if that helps in the germination process
that's all for now

Still pretty cold out for this Up North Farm, but I'm planting the peas today anyway - already put them in water yesterday, so too late to back out now ... pics coming later on the three gardens where the peas are going in.

dang cold ...
just dreaming about the garden we'll have this year:
cutting down to just a few crops:
~tomatoes - lots of varieties - almost all heirloom: beefsteak, cherry, etc
~green beans - bush and pole . and wax
~potatoes - we were especially pleased with our crop last year - still enjoying them
~pumpkins - even tho the ones we planted in '10 were a complete failure
~eggplant - meh. I don't care for it - but hubby does so, in the garden plan it goes ::rolleyes::
~zucchini - a crop which should just sprout out of the ground by itself - but we had nary a fruit in '10
